"Cry for You", too known every bit "Cry for You lot (You'll Never See Me Over again)" on Hard2Beat,[i] is a song by Swedish vocaliser Petra Marklund, performing as September. The dance-pop track spent iii weeks at the peak spot of Billboard'southward Hot Dance Airplay Chart in May 2007.[two] In the United States, it is the second single from September's album September, succeeding "Satellites" (a number 8 hitting on the Trip the light fantastic Airplay nautical chart), while overseas information technology is her fifth single release from her second studio anthology In Orbit, following "It Doesn't Matter". It is also a unmarried from various compilation albums released in Europe.

The unmarried was a huge success in Sweden as well as the rest of Europe, and can be considered her biggest hitting yet, together with "Satellites". In her homeland of Sweden, "Cry for Yous" peaked at the number vi position on the Swedish Top 60 Singles Chart for ii weeks in a row. Information technology remained on the singles chart in Sweden for 17 non-consecutive weeks.

Every bit of Nov 2010, "Cry for You lot" has been certified Golden in the United states for sales of over 500,000 copies, making September the showtime Swedish vocaliser to receive a Gold certification in the United States since Ace of Base's 1998 hit "Cruel Summer".

In tardily 2018, nearly 12 years afterwards its release, the song was turned into a meme on Twitter, thanks to its "you'll never see me again" lyrics.[3]

Composition and release [edit]

Before the worldwide release in 2007, September had originally recorded the song for her studio album In Orbit (2005). Even so, in many compilations September has released, the song has appeared on her compilations including September, Dancing in Orbit, Aureate and Weep for You - The Album. According to September, she explained the reason why she wanted to release it worldwide, by saying "The vocal was so strong by itself. And I've been there and information technology feels like the fans are starved of trip the light fantastic music. But now dance music is coming back again, and the earth is getting smaller and smaller because of the internet – that at present sometimes you don't even accept to practise much promotion, although evidently it is yet very important. Merely I retrieve that a hitting vocal will always notice a mode."[4]

In an interview with Digital Spy, they asked about the background of the song, when she replied:[iv]

"Information technology's about when you're washed with relationship. A lot of people write to me and say 'Information technology's actually emotional and I feel and so much for the song considering my boyfriend la la la', which is really prissy for me, fifty-fifty though I didn't write the lyrics. I've had a lot of experiences similar that then that's what gives me the nerve to sing it."

The song features a trip the light fantastic toe-pop,[5] Europop[half-dozen] [7] and house[8] sound and has been compared to Bronski Beat's "Smalltown Boy" and its sampled analogue, "Tell Me Why" by Supermode, although possible similarities accept been declared unintended.[nine]

Disquisitional reception [edit]

"Weep for You" received positive reviews from music critics. Nick Levine from Digital Spy awarded the song with iv stars out of five, giving it a positive review. He stated "[...] it'south a surprisingly affecting Eurodance number, a record that'south both relentlessly danceable and desperately sad" and said its "really a pretty decent record."[10] Nonetheless, he felt the vocal was not "original" enough to outbet releases by fellow Swedish singer Robyn. Popjustice said the song is a "massive balls-out society anthem and nosotros recall it works rather well."[eleven] Ben Norman from About.com called the song the "Best Dance Crossover Track", while saying "Robbins [Entertainment] has since made peace with me by backing and promoting Swedish vocalist September and this Europop confection. Good chore guys!."[12]

AllMusic had rated the song three-and-a-half-stars out of five stars.[thirteen] M. Ross Hoffman, besides from AllMusic, had highlighted the vocal equally an album standout, and said "'Weep [for Yous]' is the obvious standout, managing to conjure both sophistication and a surprising caste of emotion from its fairly pedestrian frothy electro-pop arrangement and polished just powerful song plough."[14] Withal, he also added "'Weep for You lot' is a strong enough track (though adequately faceless besides, in its mode) [...]." PopBytes.com gave it a positive review, saying it's "total popular trip the light fantastic fluff but highly enjoyable."[15]
