Nether some circumstances, yous may receive incorrect countersign letters (despite entering the correct username and password) if your account is in a "locked" land. You may still exist able to log into some services, but for others, yous may receive letters like:

If you are certain yous are entering the correct countersign only still receiving these messages, Do Non RESET YOUR Password as this tin can exacerbate the issue. When you reset your password, your business relationship is non unlocked automatically, so your new countersign will not work either.

What can I practice if my account is locked?

If you feel the symptoms of an account lockout, take one of the following courses of activity (only reset your password as a final resort):

  • Request that your AD account be manually unlocked by contacting your department IT staff or by calling 505-277-5757 (if you are a managed workstation customer). This is a temporary fix and the additional options below should also be pursued.
  • Bank check the Wifi network settings on all of your devices (iPhone, iPad, Android device, laptop, etc.) and ensure that y'all are connecting to Lobo-Wifi with the correct username and countersign. If not, either update your UNM credentials on your device or turn off Wifi.

  • Cheque applications on your estimator or device and ensure none of them are using an incorrect password. In that location may be notifications on your device to point you in the right direction. You tin also remove old credentials in Control Console -> Credential Managing director (Windows) or Utilities -> Keychain Access (macOS). As a final resort, disconnect your device from the network to see if that clears up the lockout issue.
  • Submit a request by calling 505-277-5757 and let us know the following – UNM It will adjust your account settings to preclude lockouts going forrad.
    • Your NetID
    • What e-mail customer(s) and versions y'all utilise and on what devices (example: Outlook 2016 on Mac, Outlook 2019 on Windows, Mail app on iOS, Outlook app on Android, Samsung Email app on Android, etc.)

What causes lockouts?

Lockouts are typically caused by one of the following:

  • "Password spray" attacks against your account.
    • A malicious user attempts to login with your username multiple times only with varying (wrong) passwords.
    • If this type of set on is detected, your account is locked automatically to reduce the chance of a compromise.
  • Old passwords stored on devices (unremarkably Wifi related).
    • Your password changed at some point simply was not updated in the Wifi settings on one (or more) of your mobile devices.
    • When this occurs, your device may try to repeatedly connect to our Wifi network with your username and an incorrect (old) countersign, which results in your account being locked to minimize take a chance to the University (this beliefs looks like an "set on").
  • Old passwords cached in applications (apps) on your calculator.
    • Your password changed at some betoken just was not updated in an awarding (Outlook, MS Teams, Mail, etc.) on your device or computer.
